  Communities

Can’t Dance Can provides services for community organisations by working with them to design and deliver projects and single workshops that suit their groups. We can work within your venue if it is suitable or we can arrange for the sessions to take place in one of our approved community venues.

The outcomes of projects are important to us so if you have a specific outcome you want to achieve, we are happy to work to your specification. Some of the outcomes from previous projects and sessions include;  Reduced isolation, development of social groups, increased sense of belonging, increased confidence and self esteem, reduction in anti-social behaviour, People seeing spaces in a positive way, encouraging intergenerational relationships, and enabling people to try something new.

Some examples of recent activities we have provided include:

  • Dance Tasters- Single or multiple dance sessions working with a group to create a performance or support a theme.
  • Weekly classes- weekly community based and fun creative dance sessions for specific target groups such as mothers/older people that are both active and social.
  • Festival or Community Dance Tasters- Short Dance tasters for different target groups at community events such as the Big Lunch, Big Dance.
  • Alcohol Awareness- Working over a few weeks with groups of young people in partnership with an organisation to develop dance around the theme of alcohol abuse.
  • Festival Performance- Working with young people to create dances to be performed within the parade at festivals such as the Darnhill Festival in Heywood.
  • Folkways- A project working within the most deprived areas of the Rochdale Borough to explore the values, similarities and differences between people to promote community cohesion.
  • Meet the Neighbours- A project working with youth groups within Central Rochdale to bring them together in a flash mob to develop cohesion between communities.

Education

Can’t Dance Can provides services within education by working with them to design and deliver projects, single workshops or training that suits their needs. Often these sessions and projects support curriculum learning, and engage learners of all different styles.  The outcomes of these sessions can include; engaged young people from age 5-21, developed confidence and self-esteem, increased communication skills, integrated support for teachers.

Some examples of recent projects we have provided include:

  • Dance to Echo- A project working in partnership with the Literature and Ideas Festival in the Rochdale Borough working with secondary schools to develop dance and literacy skills through creating dance for camera to curriculum based poetry.
  • Reception and Transmission- A project working with secondary aged young people that are disengaged from literacy to develop confidence and communication skills through performance in dance, circus and creative writing.
  • Curriculum Based Dance- Delivering single or multiple dance sessions to engage children in national curriculum topics. Examples include; Invaders and Settlers, Light and Sound, The Seasons, Passport to the World…
  • After School Dance and Dance Tasters- Working with schools to provide creative after school dance workshops leading towards a performance.
  • Confidence in Dance Training- Working with teachers over three after school training sessions to enable them to confidently deliver dance to support curriculum learning in primary schools.

  Health

Can’t Dance Can provide services within health settings, or to support health outcomes by working with organisations to design and deliver projects, single workshops or training that helps to achieve their aims or outcomes. Outcomes of previous sessions/projects include; increased reminiscence, engagement in physical activity, increased understanding of the body and the benefits of physical activity, and developed positive mental and physical wellbeing. We specialise in working with older people and those with a disability, illness or injury.

Some examples of recent sessions and projects we have provided include:

  • Healthy Living Dance Tasters- Working with community groups such as older people or young mothers over single or multiple sessions to introduce them to different styles of dance and the benefits of physical activity.
  • Seated Dance for Reminiscence- Delivery of activity with older people with dementia or Alzheimer’s and their carers to promote reminiscence through movement to music.
  • Dance in your Living Room- Sessions within day centres and nursing homes for frail older people to engage them in dance, increase social interaction and have fun exercising.
  • Positive Living- A project delivered with groups over one year with one session per month in partnership with a life coach to promote positive mental and physical wellbeing through dance and life coaching.
